CBD Cookies: CBD Oil Chocolate Chip Recipe

cbd-cookies

Making chocolate chip cookies infused with CBD at home requires some expertise, but it’s nothing that you can’t easily overcome.

There are only a couple of things to follow, most importantly dosing and heating.

It’s crucial to figure out how much CBD each cookie should have, which is of course dependent on many you plan to eat in one sitting.

The other important aspect is heating, which is something that a lot of blogs unfortunately fail to point out. CBD is a delicate compound, and can sustain damage from excess heat.

Once we go over these technical aspects, we’ll also share with you our yummy custom chocolate chip CBD cookie recipe.

Dosing for CBD Cookies

If you haven’t had any previous experiences with CBD, it’s best to start with a low dose, which is around 20mg of CBD.

Once you’re familiar with the effects it produces, you can gradually increase the amount of CBD in your cookies (40mg, 60mg, or more).

On the other hand, if you already have a preferred dose of CBD and you just want to try using it in the form of a cookie, the same method is applicable.

To demonstrate how you can calculate the adequate dose for your cookies, let’s stick with a beginner’s dose (20mg dose of CBD).

For instance, If you plan to eat four cookies at once, each of them should contain 5mg of CBD.

But, If you plan to eat only two, each should contain 10mg of CBD.

To make the math as simple as possible, it’s best to stick with even numbers.

Even numbers will also make things simpler when it’s time to drip the CBD oil onto your cookies.

We’ll focus on the application of the oil later on in the recipe section.

CBD and Heat

As we previously mentioned, too much heat is CBD’s enemy.

Scientists tell us that the boiling point of CBD is between 320°F and 356°F.

This means if CBD molecules are heated above this temperature range, they will evaporate.

Since chocolate chip cookies are baked at a temperature of 375°F, CBD oil has to be added after the cookies are baked, or the excess heat in the oven will burn the CBD molecules.

We definitely want to avoid this, because you’ll end up with completely regular cookies.

We’ll cover when’s the perfect time to apply the oil a bit later, and first let’s check out everything that we need for this recipe.

How to Bake CBD Cookies

As far as equipment goes, you’ll need a baking sheet, a mixer, a spatula, and a couple of measuring cups and spoons.

For a batch of 36 cookies, you need:

  • 2 cups of chocolate chips (12oz)
  • 1 cup of softened (room temperature) salted butter
  • 1 cup of light-brown sugar
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups of flour (all-purpose)
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • ½ tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon of sea salt
  • CBD oil (360mg, if each cookies will have 10mg of CBD)

Here are a couple of tips to follow that will ensure the quality of your CBD chocolate chips cookies:

  • Use dough at room temperature. Cold dough doesn’t spread as well as room temperature dough.
  • Make sure to use a measuring cup for dry ingredients when you’re measuring flour.
  • Before you start with the cookies, leave the butter at room temperature for a few hours, so it can soften properly.

Once you’ve prepared everything, here are the instructions:

First of all, preheat the oven to 375°F. Secondly, line your baking pan with parchment paper.

Using a bowl, mix together flour, salt and baking soda/baking powder.

In a different bowl, combine butter and white/brown sugar. Mix in the eggs and vanilla until everything is nice and fluffy.

Add the dry ingredients (flour/salt/baking powder) to the eggs/butter bowl, and mix everything together.

To finish the dough, add the chocolate chips and stir them up.

Roll the dough into balls (each should be made from 2~3 tablespoons), and place them on the parchment paper.

The cookies should be baked for 8~10 minutes. Take them out as soon as they start turning brown.

It’s important for the cookies to remain gooey, so it’s normal that they appear a little doughy and unfinished.

Once you got them out of the oven, let them sit on the hot baking pan for a couple of minutes so they set up, before moving them on the cooling rack.

While the cookies are still warm (but not scorching), use the dripper that comes with the bottle to drip the CBD oil onto each cookie.

Each cookie should contain 10mg of CBD, which is exactly half a dripper of our regular CBD oil.

How Long Does It Take to Feel the Effects of CBD Cookies?

CBD cookies are essentially edibles, and edibles in general have to pass the digestive tract to reach the bloodstream and become active.

The time required for the effects of CBD to kick in varies from person to person, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours.

For a large percentage of users, the effects of ingested CBD are noticeable after 60~90 minutes.

How Many CBD Cookies Should I Eat?

If you’re trying CBD for the first time, go slow. Start with a dose of 20mg, and see how it affects you.

Once you’re familiar with the effects CBD produces, you can incrementally increase the dose by 10mg, until you find your sweet spot.

Happy baking!
