How to Make CBD Chocolate at Home

Making a delicious DIY chocolate with CBD oil isn’t too difficult, but there are a couple of things that need to be followed in order for your chocolate to turn out extra yummy.

The most important aspect is of course CBD dosing.

Contemplating how to properly dose CBD oil probably seems a little intimidating, but that’s why we’re here. Once we go over the technicalities of dosing, we’re also going to share with you our uniquely luscious CBD chocolate recipe.

Let’s get to it.

How to Use CBD Chocolate Bars

In this recipe we’ll be making a 4-ounce chocolate (roughly 113 grams).

To determine how much CBD oil you’ll need for the entire chocolate, we first need to figure out how much chocolate you’re going to eat in one sitting.

The usual dose for beginners is around 20mg of CBD, which means that if you’re planning to eat ⅓ of the chocolate, you need 60mg of CBD for the entire chocolate.

On the other hand, if you want to eat half of the chocolate, you’ll require a total of 40mg of CBD.

We advise you to first try ⅓ of the chocolate dose (20mg of CBD for one dose, 60mg for the whole chocolate), using our Ultimate CBD Oil, which has 60mg of CBD in a single serving.

Once you get familiar with the effects of CBD, you can then increase your dose, to 40mg or 60mg per a single dose.

Also, if you already tried using CBD oil sublingually, you should know that consuming foods with CBD requires a larger amount of CBD to achieve the same effect, when compared to the sublingual (under the tongue) method of administration.

This is so because with the sublingual method of administration, more CBD reaches the bloodstream in the end.

For instance, if you were using 20mg of CBD sublingually and found it adequate, feel free to increase the quantity of CBD to 40mg for a single dose for chocolate, or for any other edible.

Now that we got the complicated stuff out of the way, let’s check out the recipe.

CBD Chocolate Recipe

First of all, we’ll be using cocoa butter, also known as cacao butter, which is available in practically every well-equipped health food store. Contrary to its name, cocoa butter is a vegetable oil, and it doesn’t contain any dairy. It also contains healthy fats and antioxidants.

We’re also going to use cocoa powder, which comes in two distinct types: raw cocoa powder and unsweetened cocoa powder.

Raw cocoa powder is made from unroasted cacao beans, and it has a somewhat bitter flavor when compared to unsweetened cocoa powder, which is produced from roasted cocoa beans.

So depending on your personal preference, choose one of these cocoa powders for your CBD chocolate.

Here are the ingredients:

  • ½ cup of cocoa butter
  • ½ cup of raw cocoa powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • CBD oil (a 60mg dose)
  • A pinch of cinnamon

We’ll also need muffin tin liners, if you’re planning on using a muffin pan.

Step one:

Using a small saucepan, melt the cocoa butter over low heat.

Step two:

Add the cocoa powder, honey and CBD oil.

If you’re using our Ultimate CBD Oil, you’ll need exactly one dose to reach the 60mg of CBD required for this recipe.

The temperature used in this recipe is relatively low (around 195°F), and is therefore safe for CBD, which boils in temperatures over 320°F.

Stir the mixture for about two minutes, until everything blends together.

Step three:

Remove the saucepan from the stove, and add the vanilla extract and cinnamon. You can also enrich your chocolate with various ingredients, like raisins or chopped nuts.

Step four:

Pour approximately ½ inch of chocolate into each muffin tin liner, and refrigerate for about two hours.

How to Store CBD Chocolate

Homemade DIY chocolate (without any preservatives) can typically be stored in the fridge for a period between three to four months, but to be extra safe, it’s best to finish it long before that.

Considering how tasty it is, I’m sure this won’t come as an issue.

As for the CBD in your chocolate, it will be just fine in the fridge.
